17 Cars showed up for the first race of the Top Dog Challenge Series, including Bryson Smith, Anthony Pope, Kyle Pope, and Justin Demars who normally run on the dirt only. AMCA saw Rick Taylor from Penticton BC, Tyler Howard of Covington, WA and the 2023 AMCA champion join the field of cars for this great event.
(Kyle Pope - normally a dirt racer, joined us for the first Top Dog Challenge Series race)
One of the biggest stories of the night was mechanical failures to multiple cars. Tyler Howard's rear end broke. Robert Rush broke an axil and Ryan Bishop had his motor blow-up. Then there was Justin Demars.
First, Justin accidentally set off the fire extinguisher in his race car. After cleaning that up, he was out at practice and came in to the pits straight to the scales to be weighed. Shut the car off waiting his turn on the scales and when he restarted.... The rear end broke.
Qualifying
Cameron Stark was fast time with a 15.180, followed by Rick Taylor at 15.239 and Kyle Pope at 15.367. In all, eight drivers made it into the 15-second bracket during qualifying.

Heat Race #1 saw Brian Taylor win over Rick Taylor, followed by Anthony Pope close behind.
Heat 2 Winner - Cameron Stark
Heat Race #2 saw Cameron Stark come from the 7th starting position to make a last lap pass for the win over Kyle Pope who led most of the race. Robert Rush from Astoria, OR finished a strong 3rd in the heat.
Feature Winner - Tylor Howard

The 14 remaining cars start the main event with the top 10 cars fully inverted based on their qualifying and heat race points. Unfortunately, misfortune set up Chuck O’Conner who got tangled with Daryl Knutson, wheel hoping him and getting his car upside down on the back stretch. Luckily, other than being a bit on the sore side and his car torn up, Chuck was okay.
With the field of 14-cars divided in half with the top 7 inverted based on points, Cameron Stark started inside of row 4 of the main event. Robert Rush in his #44 started on the pole and let the first three laps before Kyle Pope coming from the fourth starting position in his #8o car took the lead. Within a couple of laps, Cameron Stark in his black #14w was right on the bumper of Kyle and stayed there for many laps trying to find a way around him or wait for a mistake by Kyle to pass. Kyle fought hard, but with less than 10 laps to go, Cameron was able to get around Kyle coming out of turn two and out pulling him to the entry of turn three and kept it until the win.
That was the third win of the season for Cameron. Second went to Kyle Pope, and Bryson Smith in his 04 ended up third.
Next up on the schedule, the Dwarfs head to Willamette Speedway (this weekend) for a two day show July 20-21st. This will be the 2nd race in the Top Dog Challenge series.
